If the steamer stops steaming for a short period and then restarts a common cause is a build-up of calcium or similar deposits on the element, which results in heat retention. It is easily solved by removing the element and scraping off any deposit visible.

Due to the high content of calcium in our water, this can lead to an excessive build-up on the steamer element, causing problems such as extended heat up time or longer periods between the cutting out and cutting in of the thermostat due to heat retention. Taking out the element and removing the deposits (usually this is done best by scraping the calcium off) should solve the problem.

To prevent the thermostat on the Earlex Wallpaper steamer from operating
prematurely and allowing the unit to stop steaming for short periods of time, empty the water out after use. This will help to prevent a build-up of scale on the elements – the major cause of this problem. The life of the steamer will also be extended by not leaving water in the tank.
