Choosing the right water pump depends on your requirements– this includes water characteristics, debris, and the desired application of your pump.

Water pumps are essential in sectors such as agriculture, construction, and manufacturing, where they play an essential role in irrigation, dewatering, and fluid transfer. Whether you need to remove water from your property, prevent water damage, or maintain proper drainage, you need to select the appropriate water pump for your usage.

In this blog, we will explore the different pumps available and their primary applications, helping you to make an informed decision about which pump will work for your requirements.

1.      Clear Water Pumps:

If you need a lightweight and portable pump, clear water pumps are for you. These pumps are used for a wide range of applications such as transferring large volumes of water from a dam to a water tank or for watering trees. While they are known to be reliable and easy to use, typical clear water pumps cannot handle any other materials other than water.

The Crommelins Clear Water Pump is ideal for general-purpose pumping and transferring large volumes of water. This water pump features a self-priming pump that makes it fast and efficient, and additionally, it has a cast iron impeller and inner casing for longer life and durability. The range features 2” , 3” and 4” inlets and is also available to be fitted with a diesel engine.

2.      Poly pumps

Poly pumps are specially manufactured to handle chemicals, wastewater, salt water and mild caustic liquids. It is constructed specifically to be corrosive resistant, making them ideal for use in agriculture, farming and marine industries.

The range also features a model with 3” inlets with the option of a diesel engine.

3.      Trash Pumps

Heavy-duty and reliable, trash pumps are constructed to handle large solids and debris such as solid waste, sticks, stones, mud, and leaves. These powerful pumps are designed to handle heavy-duty tasks which involve moving large volumes of water quickly and effectively. They are an excellent choice to use when it comes to clearing flooded areas, in construction sites or in an agricultural setting.

The Crommelins Trash Pump Petrol 2” has a maximum water flow of 7250L per minute, a total head of 27m and allows for maximum solids of 20mm. Built with a genuine Robin engine, it also features a cast iron impeller and inner casing – making it robust and long-lasting. The Crommelins Trash pump range also consists of 3” and 4” inch inlets powered by petrol or diesel engines.

4.      Electric Submersible Pumps

Electric submersible pumps are highly efficient and versatile. These pumps are designed to be submerged underwater and are suitable for both clean and dirty water with the ability to handle small solids. Offering the flexibility to suit most applications, submersible pumps effectively pump grey or clean water out of tanks, ponds, sewage and flooded areas.

The Cromtech Electric Submersible Pump 150L has a 250W single phase motor, has an outlet size of 1″ (25mm), 1¼” (32mm) or 1½” (40mm), has a maximum water flow of 150Lpm and allows for maximum solids of 15mm. It is built with a vortex impeller for maximum flow. It also features models that are able to sustain a maximum water flow of 200L,233L, and 300L.

5.      Flexible Submersible Pumps

Flexible Submersible pumps are made of flexible materials that can be easily inserted into tight spaces, narrow wells, or crawl spaces. Typically, these pumps are attached to a drive unit for the rapid removal of water containing solids and typically used for footings, manholes, tanks, drainage pits, emptying pools, waste transfer and much more. This makes flexible submersible pumps ideal for the building and construction industry.

The Crommelins Flexible Drive Submersible Pump Cast Iron 2” has a water flow of 933 litres per minute with a wide suction passage, allowing up to 25mm of debris to pass through. Additionally, it can take in fluids that contain up to 60% solids. The Crommelins Flexible Submersible Pump range also features a model with an aluminium pump type as well as 3m and 6m extension shafts for additional length.

Clear water pumps, poly pumps, trash pumps, electric submersible pumps, and flexible submersible pumps have their own advantages. Knowing the different types of pumps, features, and applications will ensure you choose the most suitable pump for your needs.
