New Device superior alternative to conventional RCDs for generators.

Until now, users of mobile generators has faced a certain amount of confusion whenit comes to electrical protection. Conventional RCDs are designed to detect a current imbalance to earth greater than 30mA (typical threshold for RCDs) before initiating the isolation process. To be effective, this methodology requires a reliable earth connection which is often difficult to achieve when using a mobile generator.

The Protex iFS is a superior electrical safety device compared with the conventional RCD and is ideal for floating systems such as mobile power sources. Accredited to AS/NZS61008, it is a faster and more responsive safety system for generators and inverters.
The Protex iFS Breaker Release is unique in that it requires no earth connection to work effectively. Unlike the present RCD methodology which limits the time a person is exposed to a fault (30ms), it not only offers isolation in 5ms but uses a methodology that also limits the fault current magnitude.
With the Protex iFS Breake Release no external earth stake needs to be connected as it uses the earth line as a sensor to detect faults, dramatically improving operational efficiencies. The superior speed and lower fault currents available with the Protex iFS Breaker Release offers users not only increased protection but greatly reduced rates of injury and equipment damage in the event of an electrical fault.

Using the ground breaking iFS (Intelligent Fail Safe) design, the Protex technology offers

- Self-testing function – it continually tests its own internal integrity, turning off if an internal component failure is detected.
- Isolation in the presence of 40V and 5mA of fault current.
- iFS isolates in 5m/seconds
- Automatically adapts to 110/240v supply
- Current limits to 10mA (below let-go threshold) in the possible event of “solenoid jam” (the most common cause of RCD failure)

CROMMELINS Machinery has been given first Australian rights to incorporate the PROTEX iFS kits to their range of hire/construction pack generators on request. The kits can also be retro-fitted to existing generators which have a hire/construction pack fitted.

This sets CROMMELINS generators apart from mainstream manufacturers, enabling customized electrical safety solutions to meet site specific safety needs with additional circuit breaker protection also offered if required. Available in various enclosures including weatherproof, IP56 and IP66 outlets.
Once your generator is fitted with a Protex kit, there will be no earth staking or earth bonding required, with nothing to set up or connect – simple, safe and effective.
